Before I go any further I would like to thank all of you who took the time to give your thoughtful and kind answers. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, to the business at hand. Since I am not the type of person who lives by the numbers, I didn't come up with any statistics. However... 1. MOST of you are educators, professors, administrators, and the like. Some of you are students, and most of that group are graduate students or seniors. I have a really highbrow audience, no? 2. MOST of you have been reading Bitlist for at least 6 months to a year. What you like about Bitlist: Bitnotes, mostly. Many of you simply liked the fact that it is what it is (a list of servers, etc.). Some of you liked me (Thank You again!). However... The Bitlist's weak points: Many of you felt that Bitlist comes out too often, especially when there isn't any news. Others felt that a complete list should be sent each month and updates sent each week. The rest of you thought I was missing explanations on how to use each type of server. All true. The mailing list is now about 270 names long. At 300+ lines per issue shipped weekly, that is a LOT of stuff being shipped out that doesn't have to be. On this end, I would like to do more features (like Spotlight) but don't have the time to do it on a weekly basis. What to do? THIS: This is the last issue of Bitlist. BITNET's first weekly magazine will be replaced by a monthly (which I think will be called NetMonth). It will, as I said, REPLACE the Bitlist. Just like Bitlist it will be the spot to find out about the latest servers, Relay, mailing lists, and so on. Please continue to send me the news!!! NetMonth will also include feature articles written by yours truly (and hopefully others). But wait! There's more!!!!! NetMonth will not include a list of servers. This will be shipped separately as the file BITNET SERVERS. The file will look much like the Bitlist (without the Bitnotes and logo). That file will contain a reference to a file called BITNET USERHELP which will contain explanations on how to use the servers, etc. or at least get BITNET novices started. It will be available from me upon request, although I hope that many of the file servers will be storing a copy of it. Stuff you should know: If you are on the mailing list for BITLIST, you are on the mailing list for NetMonth. If you have been getting Bitlist from the NETSERV file servers you may have a problem, since the file BITNET SERVERS will be only the list of servers, NOT NetMonth. If you wish to receive NetMonth, please send me some mail with your userid@node. ALSO: I am accepting articles written by other people (this means YOU). I am particularly interested in stuff about how servers are run. The subject should have something to do with BITNET services. The first issue of NetMonth will be the July issue, which means that it will be arriving within the next two weeks (I hope). Until then... To request a program or set of programs, send CCUC a file named PCLIB REQ containing the filespec of each file you want, one per line. No wildcards are allowed. Both IBM-CMS and IBM-PC type filespecs are allowed (i.e both 'COM_PKG1.ASM' and 'COM_PKG1 ASM' are valid). Each line is assumed to contain a filespec, so please don't send mail or note type files! An up to date, commented list of the Info-IBMPC library files is contained in the file PROGRAM-LIS. A CMS style file list which includes other available files and time/date stamps, is in CCUC FILELIST.
